Abstract

This article presents a cascaded packed U cell (CPUC) converter tied to solar photovoltaic (PV) system. Here, a set of 25 levels in output voltage provides excellent harmonic performance and give a new approach for the solar-grid tied system. The nearest level modulation strategy (NLMS) is considered for fundamental switching at 50 Hz. One solar PV source is used at the high side directly connected to the capacitor. Here rest three sources are self-supported with DC link capacitors. A simple PI controller approach is presented for the voltage balancing of the floating capacitors. The closed-loop control is used to perform the whole operation and to feed power from the PV array to the grid end. Simulated results are observed through MATLAB/Simulink and further results are validated in real-time. Recorded results show the viability for power quality improvement. The major objective of work is to analyze performance of CPUC converter efficiency and power quality for PV grid-tied applications.
