Abstract

The paper provides a solution to the three main concerns of domestic electricity consumers, namely, energy management, power quality and electrical protection. The control console is a micro-controller module equipped with three channels of 12-bit analog-to-digital conversion system. The first channel is the voltage channel that is responsible for supply side power quality monitoring. The second and third channels are responsible for the live and leakage currents respectively. The instantaneous power and the total energy consumption are logged continuously to produce consumption profiles. The electrical protection is provided by a circuit breaker that is controlled by the microcontroller. Three kinds of protection are available, namely overcurrent, high leakage current and low supply quality.
