Abstract
The efforts have been made to explore the influence of fabric dimensional properties on polyester sewing thread selection. Two tests were performed on different ranged fabrics. First, the weight, cover factor, strength, and thickness of the fabrics are tested using ASTM testing methods and KES-F system. Then different size-ranged ticket number polyester sewing threads were used to sew the fabrics. Seam quality parameters measurements were performed to measure the seam efficiency, seam puckering and seam appearance. The correlation coefficient between different fabric properties and seam quality for different polyester sewing thread has been analyzed. It is observed that the all properties of the fabrics have high correlation with seam appearance, depending on the polyester sewing thread size. The findings of this study will provide useful information to the apparel engineers to select appropriate polyester sewing thread for achieving high seam quality for different types of fabrics. Former studies on fabric properties focused primarily on the correlation between fabrics and seam quality. However the present study took a step forward by investigating how different polyester sewing thread sizes affect seam quality for different types of fabrics.
