Abstract

This paper examines the issues of quality built environments in terms of various policies and programmes based on experience in Hong Kong, with the emphasis on high rise air conditioned commercial office buildings. The relationship between energy consumption for buildings and quality indoor environment, together with building energy efficiency, is discussed. The existing criteria used for designing buildings is evaluated and the importance of performing building audits presented.
