Abstract

This chapter reviews the use of plasma treatment in smart textiles. With the use of plasma treatment, surface properties of the material can be changed to introduce different functional effects although the material's bulk properties may not be affected. However, traditional methods use chemicals and water for surface modification whereas plasma treatment can be considered a dry process. Extant research has revealed that plasma treatment has the possibility and feasibility of being used as an alternative to traditional methods for smart textiles.
