Abstract

We propose pilot decision-aided maximum likelihood phase estimation for nonlinear-phase-noise-dominant coherent optical phase-shift-keying (PSK) systems. The receiver sensitivity is shown to be improved by ∼1dB compared to the differentially encoded PSK counterparts.
