Performance of TOA/DF Lightning Location Network in China - Site errors and detection efficiency

Abstract

Lightning Location Network (LLN) based on TOA/DF technique has been widely used in China for lightning warning and monitoring since 1990s. Two important aspects of the performance of such a LLN are the location accuracy and detection efficiency. This paper summarizes works done by the authors on these aspects since then. Their works include methods for estimation and correction of the "site errors", characteristics of and theory for the "site errors", methods for estimation of the detection efficiency and their results, for a LLN.
