Abstract

Continuation method, also known as pathfollowing method, is applied to the problem of globally optimal vector quantization, and a novel algorithm is proposed. The superiority of the proposed algorithm in codebook quality, computational efficiency, and algorithmic simplicity is demonstrated through experiments in image coding.
