Abstract
The Ministry of Science and Technology, China sponsored a national key R&D project to study strategies for improving ventilation and indoor air quality (IAQ) in Chinese residential buildings from July 2016 to June 2019. The objectives of the research are to develop technologies for solving pollutions found in Chinese homes due to the gaseous and particulate pollutants generated from indoor and outdoor sources. The research is conducting on-site measurements of IAQ and ventilation in more than 200 homes in all the five climate zones in China. This investigation is also identifying the pollutant sources and strengths. A computer program is being developed to predict IAQ and energy consumption in Chinese homes. By using the computer program, one can conduct optimal design on ventilation and IAQ for new residential buildings or building retrofits. This project is also developing standards and guidelines for ventilation designers. Fifteen universities, research institutes, and companies participated the research.
