Abstract

In this article, an overview of occupational therapy practice with children and families in Hong Kong is provided. Occupational therapy services are offered in government-funded hospitals, children's centers, and special schools. Private services are also provided on a self-financed, fee-for-service basis in clinical settings. Occupational therapists use different models of practice, including the person- environment-occupation model and the model of human occupation. Other frames of reference such as the rehabilitative, behavioral, developmental, and biomechanical are employed depending on the needs required. The focus of occupational therapy is to enhance children's development and occupational performance to cope with their needs in daily living, including school, play, and social life activities.
