Abstract
A new way of multiplexing fibre optic sensors for gas detection based on intra-cavity spectroscopy with fibre lasers is investigated. An active mode-locked fibre laser is used to address the sensing network and provide preliminary experimental results to demonstrate the principle of operation. It is a new technique for combining intracavity spectroscopy with a sensor network and has the potential for multiplexing a few tens of gas sensors with low cost and high sensitivity.
