Abstract

A technique for optical compensation of polarization mode dispersion induced power fading for single sideband subcarrier-multiplexed systems, was demonstrated. An 18 ≅20 GHz double sideband signal was generated by externally modulating the 1550 nm optical carrier. Results indicated that radio frequency power fading was compensated to less than 1.5 dB, compared to 3% of the sample exhibiting greater than 15 Db of fading without compensation.
