Abstract

Fire safety in university campuses should be studied carefully. However, such systematic studies are not yet found in Hong Kong. It is understood that evacuation is a key point. In this article, evacuation will be simulated at the 8th level of a university building with different guess design. Both horizontal and vertical transport will be considered. Occupant loading is based on the maximum allowed figures in the local codes. Variation of the occupant loading will also be simulated. Results are useful for working out the evacuation strategy.
