Abstract

This paper presented the numerical evaluation of impulsive magnetic fields in a modern building during lightning strikes. A simulation model based on the 'circuit approach' was constructed first The impulsive magnetic fields in the building were then evaluated. The electromagnetic environment during lightning was characterized against the type of lightning protection systems, the location of striking points as well as the location of sensitive equipment. Finally guidelines for the protection of critical equipment against lightning were provided.
