Numerical analysis on thermal comfort and cooling load for stratified air condition system in theatre

Abstract

Indoor air environment of classroom has greater impact on the health, learning efficiency of students. As a typical classroom format, theatre with large space has special structure characteristics, so it is necessary to study the performance of air-condition system implemented in theatre. This paper evaluated the thermal comfortable and energy saving of floor-level air supply displacement ventilation system applied in a theatre, and had the objective to optimize the indoor air distribution to achieve better thermal comfort for occupants by numerical simulation. The results indicated that adopting the floor-level air supply displacement ventilation system in theatre can potentially reduce space cooling load, but the thermal comfort in the back rows of occupied zone is not desirable, because of the terraced floor and the thermal plume effect. Increasing the supply air velocity can improve the thermal comfort in a certain extent, but can not solve the problem thoroughly, and draft risk will rise by increased supply air velocity.
