Abstract
This paper introduces a mathematical model and method for the numerical analysis of the propulsion and levitation forces in Maglev trains. The method is based on a combination of two dimensional (2D) time stepping finite element model and the external circuit equations. Thus, the movement of the train as well as the saturation of iron materials are considered properly. The method and model are used to compute the transient propulsion and levitation forces of a commercial Magvel train. The numerical results have demonstrated the feasibility and the validation of the proposed model and method in practical engineering applications.
