Abstract
We demonstrate a new method to combine the light source and sensing elements in a single dyedoped polymer optical fiber (POF) without a coupling device. The method involved novel light source pumping schemes to overcome the major problem of photo-induced organic dye fluorescence degradation (photobleaching). Our device operates at the low loss, visible wavelengths of Poly-Methyl-Methacrylate (PMMA), and can be integrated easily to an all polymer fiber sensor system.
