Abstract

A novel preventive control methodology for improving the voltage security with respect to one credible risk contingency is proposed in this paper. In this methodology, the dynamics of loads are taken into account and a heuristic integration index of the load bus voltage deviation is used as the voltage stability performance index. The sensitivities of the performance index with respect to controls are derived rigorously based on the optimal control theory. The sensitivities can be calculated out along the trajectory of the quasi- steady-state (QSS) fast time domain simulation, without identifying the critical point. The novel model has the same adaptability to system mathematical models and system scale as time domain simulation. Examples are presented on the Nordic 32 test system.
