Abstract
A novel method for automatic gain control of optical amplifiers is presented. It uses a F-P filter with 26.7 nm free spectral span and two long-period gratings (LPGs) for oscillating dual lasers in a single feedback loop. By bending the LPGs, the cavity losses at different wavelengths are varied individually and the dual lasers feedback are varied too. The technique significantly reduces surviving channel steady-state and transient power excursion by automatic reduction of relaxation oscillations and spectral hole burning. Properties of this novel optical gain control EDFA with dual-control lasers were studied in detail.
