Abstract
This paper presents a novel biased flux machine with an exterior rotor and a sailient stator with permanent magnets(PMs) and armature windings embedded in. The electromagnetic characteristics of this machine are analyzed under open-circuit and on-load conditions. Since the novel machine has a similar flux path with dc-excited flux-switching machine(DCE-FSM), a quantitative comparison study of these two machines, especially on the electromagnetic torque is conducted. The torque of the novel machine is relatively higher. The characteristics of the novel machine are simulated with 2-D time-stepping finite element method (TS-FEM).
