Abstract
Nonlinear stochastic response analysis of viscoelastic damper-connected adjacent multi-story buildings under earthquake excitation is performed in this paper using the equivalent linearization method. It is found that the use of discrete viscoelastic dampers of proper parameters to link adjacent buildings can reduce random seismic response of either building within a wide range under small earthquake. However, if the earthquake excitation becomes large, the performance of viscoelastic dampers deteriorates and the seismic response of one building may increase while the other building's response may decrease.
