Abstract

The near field flow characteristics of some wall-mounted mixing tabs were studied using a laser-Doppler anemometer. The wall-mounted tabs were found to be very effective in mixing enhancement. It was observed that, at the same height to width ratio, the rectangular tab had actually generated the highest strength of streamwise vorticity at the wake. However, the triangular tab had the highest recovery rate for the momentum defect than the other tab configurations. Moderate level of turbulence was generated behind the tabs so as to further enhance the mixing.
