Nanosecond square pulse generation in normal dispersion fiber ring lasers

Abstract

We report on the generation of square pulses in a passively mode-locked fiber ring laser made of purely normal dispersive fibers. The generated square pulses have nanosecond-level pulse duration and no internal structure. The generation mechanism of the pulses is further elaborated.
