Abstract

Mullite has been recognized as an important material for high-temperature structural applications, and mullite whiskers are good candidates for reinforced ceramic composites. In this communication the authors present a simple process for preparing mullite whiskers from oxide mixtures by high-energy ball milling. Well-developed single-crystal mullite whiskers have been produced from the milled powder instead of normal-shaped grains.
