Abstract

The SHM system of Canton Tower was developed to monitor the structural responses after the completion of its construction under different excitation events (the typhoon, earthquake and normal wind excitation conditions). The time histories and PSDs of the acceleration responses under different excitation events were acquired and compared. The modal properties (modal frequencies, mode shapes, and damping ratios) of the structure under different excitation events were identified by using the acceleration responses. The HHT technique was applied for obtaining the instantaneous frequencies and energy distribution under different excitation events in time-frequency domain by use of the monitoring data and compared with the results of the wavelet scalogram. The results of the paper supply some references for better understanding the dynamic characteristics of supertall structure under different excitations.
