Abstract

In field of structural health monitoring, an image processing technology based on digital camera fechnology attracts people's attention as a new technique of structure vibration monitoring. Taking Guangzhou New TV Tower as the research background, an industrial digital camera GPS and accelerometers were used to monitor the dynamic characteristics of the tower. The data analysis showed that the dynamic displacement time history of the tower tip obtained from the digital camera system matches well with that obtained from GPS; the former can be used to identify the lower natural frequencies; the first natural frequency obtained from the digital camera system matches well with those obtained from GPS, accelerometers and finite element analysis (FEA). The research results showed that application of digital camera technology in dynamic characteristics monitoring of a highrise structure is an effective new technique in structural health monitoring.
