Abstract

Metallisation is a technique with great potential for textiles in terms of both functional and decorative applications. The use of electroless plating to modify textile surfaces is described as a coating treatment in which performance aspects are important from a commercial perspective. The purpose of this chapter is to allow the reader to acquire an understanding of the properties of electroless plating with copper and nickel on polyester fabric. The characteristics of metallised polyester fabrics, including their microstructures, mechanical performance and functional properties, are investigated.
