Abstract

This paper presents a summary of research work on the modelling and development of power factor improvement techniques for switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives. Four models of SRM are presented, which include an interpolation model using two-dimensional (2-D) bicubic spline, an analytical model based on 2-D least squares technique, a hybrid model based on 2-D bicubic and 2-D bilinear splines, and also a model including mutual coupling. The authors have also investigated the effects of the control and output parameters upon the power factor in SRM drives. Furthermore, a new control strategy and two real-time schemes to improve the power factor of SRM are developed and reported.
