Abstract

The spectral characteristics of superstructure fiber Bragg gratings were numerically analyzed based on the coupled mode theory. The counter directional guided mode coupling, codirectional and counterdirectional claddings mode coupling were taken into account. The impact of codirectional cladding modes coupling on the Bragg reflection of the guided mode was also discussed and a solution to eliminate the coupling was proposed. The theoretical results were compared with the measured spectra.
