Abstract
The degradation of mechanical properties in nylon 6 films due to both oxidative and non-oxidative photodegradation is studied. It is shown that in a non-oxygen environment the rate of degradation is enhanced with rising temperature due to increases in quantum yield. Experimental results obtained on specimens exposed to natural weathering are found to be difficult to relate to those obtained by accelerated ageing. It is proposed and proven that the specific energy absorption in a tensile test (Wp) is an effective parameter for characterizing photodegradation in nylon.
