Mechanical properties of a sintered Al2O3/ZrO2 composite

Abstract

Although much work has already been conducted on the effects of dispersed ZrO2 particles in ceramic matrices on toughness, strength and R-curve, there is little systematic data on a full range of mechanical properties for any single Al2O3/ZrO2 composite. The present work gives some such experimental data for a sintered Al2O3/ZrO2 composite and the mechanical properties include R-curve, σ-ε curve, indentation and Weibull strengths, dynamic, static and cyclic fatigue data.
