Abstract
The effects of the blending ratios of virgin and recycled glass fibre reinforced poly(ethylene terephthalate) (GRPET) and the number of cycles of recycling on the engineering properties and melt flowrate of recycled GRPET have been investigated. A significant increase in melt flowrate and a decrease in tensile strength and impact resistance were observed for recycled GRPET, the extent depending on the number of recycling operations and the blending proportions of the recycled GRPET with virgin GRPET. The results also showed that material having up to 50% first time recycled GRPET exhibited no significant changes in mechanical properties compared with 100% virgin GRPET. Material having 100% fourth time recycled GRPET suffered the worst degradation effect.
