Abstract
The effect of the orientation of 0.52 Pb(Fe1/2Nb1/2)O3-0.48 PbTiO3single crystal (PFN-PT) on the magnetoelectric (ME) properties in tri-layer laminate composites consisting of TbxDy1-xFe2alloy and PFN-PT has been studied. The different αEas a function of applied magnetic field was observed in the laminate composites with different PFN-PT orientations. The origin of αEdependent on the orientation of PFN-PT is discussed based on an analysis of crystal physics. It was found that the shear strains also play an important role in the ME effect besides the normal strains.
