Abstract
It is investigated the temperature properties of long period fiber grating (LPG). The measured temperature coefficient is 0. 0 8 6 nm/°C, which is about 8. 2 times higher than the typical value for a normal fiber Bragg grating. It is investigated the temperature sensing properties of LPG based on intensity measurement, by using long period fiber grating as sensor element and using tunable erbium-doped fiber ring laser as optical source. In the temperature range of 74 °C, the loss (logarithm of intensity) of the laser is linear with the measuring temperature and the linearity can be repeated well. The resolution of temperature measurement is 0. l°C.
