Abstract

2016 Taylor & Francis Group, London. Life-cycle risk assessment of highway bridges under multi-hazards is gaining increased attention. In this paper, a framework for life-cycle risk assessment of highway bridges under multiple hazards is presented. Uncertainties are incorporated within evaluation process. Earthquake and flood hazards are investigated herein. Probabilistic direct and indirect loss of bridges under hazard effects are computed. The assessment of probabilistic risk and life-cycle loss of highway bridges under multiple hazards can aid in implementing risk-informed hazard mitigation and provide decision makers with a better understanding of lifetime structural performance. The proposed methodology is illustrated on an existing bridge.
