Abstract
Faced with rapid urban development and tightening signage regulations, many characteristic shop signs in Hong Kong have disappeared, taking along with them traditions of calligraphy, aesthetics, design and craftsmanship. It is therefore high time to preserve and conduct research into the visual culture of Hong Kong’s signs. ‘City | Script’, the first exhibition to sprout from our research project, aims to connect the audience with the art of signage script. More importantly, it encourages the public to discover and experience the beauty of Hong Kong signs.
