Abstract

The present book offers the first complete English translation of this important Daoist scripture of the Southern Song period. Using Chinese, Tibetan, and Sanskrit sources, this book problematizes the relationship between Daoist ritual and what some scholars term “Tantrism.” The present book also examines the commentaries to the Scripture of the Jade Sovereign in terms of their significance for rethinking major narratives about Chinese intellectual history.
