Abstract

In this work, a process strategy was proposed and a GLEEBLE material simulator was employed for the heat treatment of asdelivered boron steel to obtain various microstructures. Specimens were specially designed to minimize temperature gradients during heating, so as to ensure uniform microstructure distributions along the gauge sections for tensile testing. Phase transformation analyses were conducted based on thermal strain measurement and SEM microstructure observations. Tensile behaviours of boron steels were tested by using an INSTRON machine and a set of DIC (Digital Image Correlation) equipment. Vickers Hardness was also tested. The relationships among heat treatment conditions, microstructures and mechanical properties were summarized. Deformation mechanism of multi-phase boron steels was investigated.
