Abstract
Although there is no solid evidence to indicate that delivering sustainable construction has been hindered by any forms of procurement methods, some previous studies found that traditional procurement method is of limited effectiveness to deal with sustainability parameters. A number of studies suggested that partnering is a better procurement method to incorporate the principle of sustainability issues. Partnering, however, encompasses a whole spectrum of approaches in both procurement and project implementation stages. Partnering principle is relatively new in Malaysia and only in application for a big project that cost more than RM 40 million. Clients are used to adopt a procurement method they are most familiar with or rely on professional advice. There is a need for study on choice of a proper procurement method to ensure the successful project outcome. This study establishes a linkage between sustainability and procurement method. Thus, an ?integrated set of indicators? is proposed, which will be used for analyzing different types of procurement methods. A methodology is therefore proposed to evaluate the performance between the indicators and procurement methods.
