Abstract

The rheological behavior of salt rock is studied by both uniaxial and triaxial relaxation tests. In order to investigate the relaxation behavior of salt rock, stepwise relaxation tests are performed after the sample is subjected to different pre-relaxation creep strains and confining pressures. Results show that the lateral strain is almost constant during relaxation. Stress relaxation decreases with increasing confining pressure. The relaxation behavior of salt rock is greatly affected by the pre-relaxation creep strain.
