Abstract

We propose and demonstrate a novel intra-bit polarization diversity modulation technique that can completely remove first-order PMD. The performance is independent of the DGD value. 4 dB improvement of 2% received optical power tail is obtained over the conventional NRZ format in the presence of higher-order PMD.
