Abstract

This short article aims to explore the attitudes of international businesses (IBs) towards the relatively recent social movement in Hong Kong SAR and subsequently provide actionable insights for other IBs that encounter similar issues. By analyzing business responses to these movements, we build on and widen the elements of the Economic Opportunity Structure framework (EOS) introduced by Joseph Luders in 2006. This short essay formulates a parallel between the magnitude of economic disruption and concession costs caused by social movements and the reaction businesses produced following different stages of the protests.
