Abstract

Interface bond between FRP sheets and concrete plays a very important role in keeping the structural performances and integrity of reinforced concrete structures upgraded with FRP sheets. FRP sheet-concrete interfaces undertake different stress conditions in different strengthening cases. Consequently the corresponding failure mechanisms are different. This paper reports different experimental methods capable of simulating various stress conditions that FRP sheets may undertake in real strengthening cases. Failure mechanisms of FRP sheet-concrete interfaces under shear, tension and combination of shear and tension are presented. Meanwhile, bond models of FRP sheet-concrete interfaces under those various conditions are built up. Finally, a couple of pragmatic applications of the proposed bond models in engineering design are discussed.
