Abstract

This paper proposes a new concept of energy ecosystem over traditional energy system by introducing carbon material cycling from carbon neutrality perspective. Based on energy application pattern in modern society from industry, transportation and building, we derived a four steps road map for sustainable energy ecosystem development, which are defined as Digitization of Energy, Network of Energy, Internet of Energy and Intelligence of Energy. Due to the shortage of massive energy storage, sustainability is difficult to be built upon existing multi-energy network that is vulnerable to the large intermittence of renewable. Instead, proposed ecosystem can introduce the possibility to store and distribute energy into the carbon material to build a controllable carbon cycle into energy system. Thanks to the cloud-fog-mist platform development based on the latest IoT technology, a fractal control structure is derived to be able to include distributed intelligence algorithms across energy ecosystem, as found in the self-sustained natural ecosystem.
