Abstract

Taking an oil and gas pipeline suspension bridge as an example, two seismic waves with different spectrum characteristics are selected to study the influence of traveling wave effect and uniform excitation on the internal forces and displacements of the pipeline suspension bridge at structural critical details by adopting time-history method. The results indicate that the peak internal forces and displacements of pylon change significantly with consideration of traveling wave effect, and the peak of those appear with corresponding wave velocity of 1000m/s or so. The vertical displacement envelope value of the girder decreases with the wave view velocity increasing and the number of its inflection point increases. The internal forces and displacement of tower tend to be the same with the condition of uniform excitation when wave velocity is greater than a certain level, and there are great difference in seismic response of the structure under the two seismic waves whose peak of acceleration is same but spectrum characteristics are different.
