Abstract
In situ synthesis of titanium carbide (TiC) reinforced surface metallic matrix composites (MMC) was performed. Different weight ratio of titanium and silicon carbide (SiC) powders were mixed and laser surface alloyed. A hard MMC layer with good metallurgical bonding to the aluminum substrate was obtained from the in situ synthesis during the melting process.
