Abstract

The impact of phasor measurement unit (PMU) and wide-area measurement system (WAMS) constraints, which mainly consist of synchronization accuracy and signal time delays, have to be considered in practical application of wide-area stability analysis and control. This paper firstly discusses the causes and effects of synchronization inaccuracy and signal time delay, and then the synchronization accuracy and signal time delay are systematically studied and examined such that adjustments, compensations and optimizations could be applied on the synchronized phasor measurements and data transmission delays in order to meet the demand of wide-area stability analysis and control in practical use.
