Abstract

The effect of MnO2addition on the sinterability of CeO2was studied. The effect of doping of Mn doping level on grain size and sintered density of the ceramic was also shown. Isothermal sintering experiments were conducted using a dialtometer to study the effect of sintering time and temperature on the densification of CeO2. Microstructure of the samples and the crystallite sizes were measured using scanning electron microscopy. The results confirmed that the Mn doping reduced the sintering temperature by around 200 °C and promoted grain boundary mobility of the powder.
