Abstract
Improvement of the corrosion resistance of magnesium ZM51/SiC composite by laser cladding was investigated. The composite material was produced using a liquid processing route and was received in the form of extruded rods. Laser cladding was performed with the help of a continous wave laser. Results showed that the use of Al-Cu alloy as the cladding material significantly increased the corrosion and breakdown potential of the Mg-based/SiC composite.
