Abstract

Using the side-illumination fluorescence (SIF) technique, we demonstrated a method to improve the power of the fluorescence signal into the core of a laser-dye-doped POF by tapering the POF. A taper of the laser-dyed-doped POF was made by pulling it using an electric heater. The transition slope of the taper was pumped by a 532nm diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) laser. In our experiment, the side-illumination generated fluorescence power can be improved by nearly 10 times by the tapering method.
